Rates/Programs
What type of swim lessons do you offer?
Big Arms Swimmers offers two types of programs. One designed for the instructor to do
private lessons in the comfort of your pool (either backyard or community pool). The
second program is lessons we offer at Coto Valley Sports Club (open to the public) where
we offer both private and group lessons.
Please explain the rates for lessons if the instructor comes to my pool?
There are two different packages for swim lessons at your pool. Both packages are for six-
20 minute private lessons—if more then one swimmer is at the pool, they do consecutive
private lessons one after the other.
If there are one or two swimmers (the instructor is at the home for 20 or 40 minutes) the
package is $159 per swimmer. If there are three or more swimmers (the instructor is there
for at least an hour) it is $138 per swimmer.
What are the rates for lessons at Coto Valley?
Two types of lessons are offered at Coto Valley Sports Club. Private lessons are
sold in a package of six 20 minute private lessons for $138. Group lessons
purchased at a rate of six 30 minute group lessons for $78.
Payment/Scheduling
When are swim lessons offered?
Swim lesson packages of 6 lessons offered any time of day either on Mon, Wed, & Fri
which last for 2 weeks, Tuesday & Thursdays which last for 3 weeks, or Sat & Sun (at 30
minutes lessons) for 2 weeks.
Should I put my child in group of private swim lessons?
We only offer group lessons for children 4 years or older that are able to be tread water on
their own. It has been our experience that private lessons are a must for swimmers under
this level. The major benefits of private lessons include: the instructor moves at your child’
s specific pace, the entire lesson is geared toward the necessary steps your child must
master, and schedule flexibility. While group lessons have benefits in that: your child is
able to socialize with peers, the rates are more affordable, and positive peer motivation
often aids swimmers to maximize their performance.
Do you offer make-ups or credits for missed classes?
Due to the nature of the business, we do not honor any lesson cancellations. If a lesson
is skipped or missed (with or without communication) an extra lesson will be given to the
customer if they choose to purchase another round of swim lessons.
I want more swim lessons then just the package of six lessons?
Contact us immediately so we are able to secure a spot with your same instructor.
During the Lesson
What should I bring to swim lessons?
Just a bathing suit, towel and an eager youngster. We advise against bringing goggles or
any other swimming device.
What should I do during the swim lessons?
Swim lessons can be a very traumatic experience for your youngster. We recommend that
the parent stay on the pool deck so your child can still see that you are in fact still around.
At the same time parents should not interrupt the swim lessons in any manner. A great
idea is to sit through swim lessons on the pool deck reading a magazine.
Are the lessons with Big Arms Swimmers extremely strict or very playful
and fun?
There are two extreme philosophical methods regarding teaching swim lessons. On one
end is the philosophy to throw the child in the deep end and as they struggle they will learn
to swim. On the other end, is to coddle and play with the child being careful to not press
the issue until they are willing to learn without a fuss. We at Big Arms Swimmers have a
philosophy that is somewhere in the middle of this spectrum.
As every parent has different parenting philosophies, please feel comfortable discussing
your expectations in regards to strictness with your instructor and/or our office. When
dealing with private lessons it is very easy for the instructor to modify his/her approach to
your liking.
